Election Day

It was election day on what would turn out to be a series of major victories for the Democratic Party. The Blue Wave ensured that the Dems would control both the House and Senate. I look forward to seeing how the Democratic Party defines itself over the next two years in advance of the 2028 Presidential Election.

I started the morning with a workout as we got to appreciate the amenities of the Prince William Forest RV Campground before we headed out for our next stop, Morrisville, NC. This four-and-a-half-hour trip included a beautiful drive on Route 85 south, where the tree-lined road gave the appearance that we were traveling through a National Park. Along the drive, I noticed several signs recognizing National Championships of various University of North Carolina Tar Heels sports teams. It made me wonder about the origin of the nickname Tar Heel. It turns out the name most likely traces back to North Carolina’s pine tar, pitch, and turpentine industry, whose workers ended up with tar-stained heels. Another popular legend says Civil War soldiers from the state held their ground in battle as if they had tar on their heels.

With a brief stop for lunch at a sun-splashed picnic table, we arrived at my cousin’s house at 3:30 p.m. After catching up for a couple of hours, we had dinner with Zio Joe, my mom’s brother. Although the two have always had a familiar look, I was blown away by the strong resemblance of my uncle to my mom. It was uncanny. Today was another reminder of one of my mother’s favorite mantras, “Family First!” It was awesome to reminisce with my family today.
