Back to Santa Cruz

It was a travel day as we grabbed a boat ride from Isabela to Santa Cruz. Before the second bumpy ride, we had a relaxing day where we enjoyed our complimentary breakfast, a short visit to the Isabela Port, and another delicious lunch at Albita’s Bar & Grill.

The port town of Puerto Villamil isn’t just the main gateway to Isabela—it literally straddles two hemispheres! The island is bisected by the Equator, placing parts of the port and town in both the Northern and Southern Hemispheres. This unique position underscores the island’s dramatic geologic origins and its stunning biodiversity. I was able to snorkel ($7 rental at the dock) for over an hour and saw some amazing corral, colorful fish and one large ray.

At lunch, Ashley had the chef cut her tuna as she ate half and will cook the other half in Santa Cruz. Besides our meals, we also devoured several passion fruits that she had purchased at the market yesterday.

As I begin my 63rd trip around the sun, it’s important to remember to  balance comfort with discomfort.  Comfort restores and prepares us for the discomfort associated with taking risks, trying something new or embarking on an unfamiliar adventure. Discomfort, on the other hand, helps us grow by pushing us beyond what is comfortable. Comfort helps you face discomfort. Discomfort makes us appreciate comfort. One gives us strength while the other builds it.
