November 5: Moremi Paradise Pools

From Khwai North Gate Campsite, we made the slow and challenging drive to Moremi Paradise Pools.  The journey provided some spectacular close range views of elephants, giraffes, greater kudus, and springboks.  And, although the journey was rewarding, the destination was the pinnacle of the day. Moremi Paradise Pools were, as the name implies, an absolute paradise for wildlife and humans looking for the perfect photo stop.  The grassy wetlands combined with the several dead trees reminiscent of Sossusvlei was a unique and extraordinary landscape.  We were treated by many varieties of wildlife and one sole elephant who provided the perfect backdrop for pictures.  While driving to a place for lunch, we drove by a dead elephant – it was so sad to see this beautiful, lifeless animal.

After lunch at a local campsite, we made the 3+ hour drive back to Maun Luxury Oasis where we crashed for the evening.  The accommodations were clean with a small kitchen and refrigerator.  The wifi was quick and allowed me to watch a very boring Patriots game.
