November 19: Victoria Falls from the Ground
We were one of the first in line at the gate of Victoria Fall’s National Park. Today, we enjoyed the sights of the largest waterfall in the World from the ground. The two hour tour gave us an opportunity to visit each of the ten viewpoints of one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World.
According to Wikipedia, “Victoria Falls (Lozi: Mosi-oa-Tunya, "Thundering Smoke"; Tonga: Shungu Namutitima, "Boiling Water") is a waterfall on the Zambezi River in southern Africa, which provides habitat for several unique species of plants and animals. It is located on the border between Zambia and Zimbabwe and is one of the world's largest waterfalls, with a width of 1,708 m (5,604 ft).”
After a quick breakfast at the N1 Campsite, we drove to Main Camp in Hwange National Park where we completed a self-guided safari tour with limited success. The flies and mosquitos were so bad that we decided to stay in a chalet without air conditioning. And, although this decision assisted with dealing with flying insects, it did little to help us avoid the continued heat. Ceiling fans in the bedrooms made sleep possible and tolerable but far from ideal.
