November 1: Botswana
We made the five hour journey to Maun, Botswana. Shortly after crossing the border, we were stopped by two police officers who stated that we were going 80 km/hr in a 60 km/hr zone. I pleaded for a warning and we were eventually given one – we “thanked” the officers with some cold refreshments (a couple of cokes and beers). There was not much to see as we made our way through a vast wasteland with few homes. When we finally arrived in bustling Maun, we purchased a new SIM card; dropped off Soowon and his wife at their accommodations; and settled into Jump Street Chalets. Our one bedroom bungalo had a comfortable bed, clean bathroom and most importantly, a functioning air conditioner. The cool room was a welcome relief after several days in the humid climate. It was clearly the best night sleep that I would have in weeks.
