October 4-5: We're on to South Africa

Thursday, October 5

After two really  smooth flights on Ethiopian Air, we arrived in Cape Town at about 2:30 pm local time.  After purchasing a SIM card, we met our driver who took us to Bushlore Rental agency where we filled out paperwork and then were given a 1.5 hour tutorial on all of the functionality of the 2023 HilC4 Toyota Hilux 4x4. My head was definitely spinning after about 20 minutes – talk about information overload.  It will be interesting traveling in this vehicle with two rooftop tents – it will be quite a different experience from the one we experienced in our climate controlled Revel.

We met Soowon and his wife for dinner at a local restaurant specializing in barbeque – pretty tasty at a reasonable price.

We arrived at Brussels Airport at 6:53 am approximately 18 minutes later than scheduled.  Still groggy – we gathered our bags and walked to the terminal.  That’s when I realized that I had misplaced my wallet – a complete disaster. It must have fallen out of my pocket.  We contacted Flixbus and the owner of QW Caravan to see if they could locate it.  As of 9:45 am, no word yet.

It was an extremely long day of waiting over 12 hours in the airport – the plan to save $300 flying out of Brussels instead of Hamburg was definitely not worth it. We spent nearly $100 on food and drink during our wait at Brussels International Airport.
