October 23: Cape Cross Seal Reserve

Our first stop of the day was Cape Cross Seal Reserve, which is part of the national park reservation service in Namibia.  This reservation is a sanctuary for seals.  I’ve never seen so many seals in one location in my entire life.  They were swimming in the water, basking in the sunshine, and horseplaying on the rocks.  It was like Revere Beach on a hot summer weekend. We were entertained by the boyish antics and high pitched bellowing of these cute mammals.  The only downside to this adventure was the foul odor from these frolicing animals.

Next, we completed the four hour drive to Palmwag Campsite where we settled in for the evening.  During our journey, we saw a few elegant giraffes and speedy springboks that kept a comfortable distance from our vehicle.  After dinner, we were amazed to see four elephants walking through the campsite.  These behemoths really get your adrenaline going as their size is quite daunting.  The wildlife of this place is incredible.
