October 10: Fish River Canyon

We started our day by enjoying the spectacular views from along the ridge of the Fish River Canyon.  Google claims that the canyon “measures 17 miles wide, 1804 feet deep and 99 miles long.”  These impressive dimensions make it the largest canyon in Africa.”

Next, we spent a couple of hours waiting to purchase a SIM card.  Lots of Namibians must have had the same idea as we all descended on the store at approximately the same time.

Our last stop of the day was the Mount D’Urban campsite where we enjoyed a delicious dinner before getting to bed.  This campsite has done “glamming”’right.  Your pitch has its own sink, fire pit, shower and bathroom.  If the folks in the USA haven’t figured it out yet, this concept  is what Americans would love.
