September 2 - 3: Borgarfjörður Eystri
Sunday, September 3
We made the approximately two-hour drive to Borgarfjörður Eystri in search of puffins. This journey to this location was absolutely spectacular with a variety of mountains ranging from green moss covered to rainbow colored as well as several spectacular black peaks. The deep blue ocean perfectly outlined the amazing landscape. Unfortunately, we didn’t see any puffins but did explore their cool habitat, which had tons of nests that were left behind for the season (April - mid-August).
After devouring a pretty decent wood-fired pizza, we headed back to our campsite, which has become a second home for us.
Saturday, September 2
It was a super quiet day that we spent exclusively at our campsite. Ashley did meet a wonderful Korean family who were traveling together in Iceland. The mom, dad and daughter were delightful as they invited us for dinner by their tent. While eating, we learned that they were on Korean television in a segment that showed their camping adventures as a family.
