August 26: Melanes Campsite

After a wicked busy week, the rain and wind caused us to take a break today at the cozy Melanes Campsite. We took full advantage of the camp’s amenities as we cooked lunch and took a couple of hot showers.  It was a well-deserved day of rest and relaxation as I continued to battle a bit of a cold.  

As evening approached, the weather began to clear so we took the opportunity to take a short walk along the black cliffs, which were perched  above the golden sandy beach. While strolling back to our van we met a lovely couple from Reykjavik who had studied in the USA – the wife was working as a professor and the husband was a practicing ENT doctor.
