August 2: Trolltunga

On a day filled with bright sunshine, we completed the 20 km Trolltunga trek.  According to Google, “Trolltunga is a rock formation situated about 1,100 meters above sea level. The cliff juts horizontally out from the mountain, about 700 meters above the north side of Lake Ringedalsvatnet.”

We were on the first shuttle bus at 5:45 am and began our hike at exactly 6:52 am.  We really flew going up as we attempted to beat the crowd to the top. The trek was not necessarily difficult but provided some spectacular views of Lake Ringedalsvatnet. One place in particular was absolutely breathtaking and stopped me dead in my tracks, which allowed me to take a few pictures.  We made it to the top at 9:30 am and there was already a short queue of people waiting to take the famous photo on the protruding cliff.  From this point, we spent an hour and a half taking pictures, eating breakfast/lunch, and people watching. By the time we started our descent, the queue was now extremely long as people we going to have to wait approximately an hour for their moment of fame.

The trek back was the same route so we didn’t need to stop too much.  We made it down in about two hours and 50 minutes.  Ashley had met another Korean couple who gave us a lift back to our campsite.  We ended up eating dinner in our apartment –  a mix of Korean and Italian food.
