July 2 - 3: Yellow Fever Vaccine
Monday, July 3
We first visited a clinic to receive the necessary paperwork from a doctor to obtain a yellow fever shot. The cost of the “prescription” was originally 200 dirham per person but Ashley bargained it down to 100 dirham/person. Next, we drove to a hospital in downtown Casablanca where we received our yellow fever shot for 222 dirham each. For those keeping track at home, it cost us a total of 644 dirham or $66 for two yellow fever shots. When we attempted to get these same vaccines in the USA, the cost was quoted at $1200 per person! It was unclear how much insurance would pay but a best bet would be it would have cost us at least $1200 in the USA and it costs us only $66 in Morocco.
We also visited a Chinese restaurant and enjoyed some delicious fare. We dined on eggplant, tofu, Kung Pao chicken and bok choy. And, for the first time in my life, the owner asked if I was Japanese.
Sunday, July 2
The extreme heat kept us confined in our air conditioned vehicle for most of the day except for a trip to the market. We are both feeling a bit under the weather so the days of rest are a welcome relief to an otherwise busy two years of travel. I did have enough energy to purchase the Steve Jobs ebook by Walter Isaacson at Barnes & Noble.
