July 18: Kjeragbolten
We completed a pretty strenuous 6 hour hike at Kjerag in some challenging conditions as we encountered rain (no big surprise here), wind, and sleet. The 11 km trek includes several steep sections that require the use of chains similar to the ones found on Angel’s Landing. The “reward” of this hike is Kjerag rock (Kjeragbolten), the famous rock firmly anchored between two cliffs. With the raining conditions, Kjerag rock definitely brought me literally to my knees as I couldn’t get myself to stand up on this egg shaped rock with an1,000 meter drop off any edge. Ashley, as usual, was a ninja, and quickly got up on the rock and posed for some classic pictures. As reported on their website, “Kjerag is the highest point on the Lysefjorden in Forsand Municipality, Norway.”
After a challenging and slippery climb down, we were both soaking wet and exhausted. We rushed to cover as we drove 15 minutes to Kjerag Lyseboth Camping. We both thought it was one of the most beautiful campsites that we’ve visited with a huge waterfall cascading down a cliff and spectacular view of a fjord.
