July 16: Preikestolen

We had quite the Sunday!  We awoke at 5:00 am and walked to downtown Stavanger where we met a group of high school students.  We had fun sharing stories about our adventures and life in Norway. The young people were so respectful and quite at ease having a conversation with us.  We were beginning our day while they were just putting the finishing touches on a fun evening.

After a quick breakfast, we drove to Preikestolen where we completed a spectacular 8 km hike. According to its official website, “Preikestolen, which was formed more than 10,000 years ago is the most iconic landmark in Norway.”  One could definitely see why it is called Norway’s most iconic landmark, especially when you are perched on the 604 meter high cliff with its breathtaking views of the Fjord Norway. Not even heavy rain on the way down could dampen our spirits as we were flying high from the exhilarating trek. It is one that we will never forget – definitely add this one to your bucket list.
