June 6: Futbol on the Beach

We made it to the beach this afternoon and were entertained by several young Moroccan boys who were juggling soccer balls along the water’s edge. There were no adults in sight, just a group of young men having fun while sharpening their skills.  Futbol is clearly the most popular sport in this north African country with cricket a distant second.

I, along with the other local beachgoers, enjoyed the warm waters by swimming and body surfing.  The waves were perfect for the latter activity and if caught just right provided an exhilarating ride into the shoreline.

We also walked into the city where we bought a fresh chicken for about $5.00 and found a tailor who mended a tear in my favorite yellow windbreaker for $2.00.  When we got back to the campsite, Ashley promptly boiled the chicken and made an incredibly tasty soup that brought back memories of Zia Judy and Zia Nina’s specialities.
