June 29: Eid al-Adha

It was another pretty quiet day in Oualidia although we did have the incredible opportunity to celebrate Eid al-Adha with a local family.  According to Wikipedia, “Eid al-Adha or the Feast of Sacrifice is the second and the largest of the two main holidays celebrated in Islam. It honors the willingness of Abraham to sacrifice one of his sons, either Ishmael or Isaac, as an act of obedience to God's command.”

Lisa, who works at the reception desk of our campsite, invited us to her home to share in some food and meet her mom, sisters, brothers, nieces and nephews.  We enjoyed pieces of traditionally prepared lamb that were grilled over hot coals. We sampled liver, intestines and ribs.  During this festival, a lamb, calf or ram is slaughtered and divided into thirds and distributed among family, friends, relatives and the poor.
