June 2: If It's Friday, It Must Be Couscous
We slept in again for a second day in a row as we are trying to adapt to Moroccan time. Ashley took advantage of a really inexpensive Hamman (about $10) while I ventured into downtown Agadir for a coffee and croissant. While sipping on my delicious latte, I began talking with a young man from Senegal who was visiting Morocco for a few weeks. He spoke passionately about his dream to explore Spain and the United States.
Next, we picked up our van and drove directly to Camping La Palmeraie in Tifnit, stopping only for a quick car wash (boy was the van dusty) and to purchase a fresh watermelon on the side of the road. Once we arrived at camp, we cleaned and organized the camper van utilizing our new storage units. After about four hours, we completed the day’s task and celebrated with some Friday couscous. According to locals, couscous is only eaten on Friday in Morocco as a ritual for families to gather and pray together.
