June 17: Timlalin Dunes

After a productive morning, we drove about 45 minutes before making it to our next destination— Timlalin Dunes.  This spot, which Aman recommended, was absolutely spectacular! We parked the van atop a high cliff overlooking the ocean and a huge cave, which has been formed from years of erosion.  The rhythmic sound of the waves along with the desert dunes makes this resting place one of my absolute favorites.

We met a local guide who took me to a cave that reminded me of Antelope Canyon in Arizona.  After getting back to the van, Ashley and I went back to the cave to take some photos.  We ran into four young men from Agadir and Ashley took a ton of pictures for them — they were so hysterical. She had them jumping and throwing sand in the air to capture the perfect photo of this cool hidden place.

When we returned to our van, MoJo had arrived and we had time to spend a few moments with them enjoying the picturesque scenery and the music of the waves. The four young men that we met earlier from the cave brought us a piece of watermelon and some bananas -- we are amazed by the kindness and generosity of the Moroccan people. Speaking of the incredibly welcoming people of Morocco, we ended up meeting a lovely Berber who brought us a bag full of mussels that we steamed and ate together with MoJo.  Mo made me a tasty gin & tonic — the perfect summer drink.  It appears that we will be harvesting our own mussels in the early morning hours.
