March 5: Casa Mingo
We made the trip to downtown Madrid once again. Our first stop was to Plaza de Cascorro, which is the site of a weekly open street market selling clothing, jewelry and household items. Unlike other markets that we’ve frequented, this one featured high quality clothing at reasonable prices. Ashley had her eye on a few really nice dresses but ended up coming home empty handed. The market attracted a ton of people as we were shoulder to shoulder with Spaniards and tourists. The energy was palpable.
Next, we made the 30 minute walk to Casa Mingo restaurant and, to say that it was worth it, is putting in mildly. When we arrived, the place was packed with about 8 groups in front of us in line. We used our time in line wisely as we drank a bottle of apple cider champagne and ate some chorizo. Once we were seated, we ordered the house special roasted chicken, salad and fan favorite bread. We finished off the meal with a luscious slice of cheesecake. I have a funny feeling that we are going to enjoy eating our way through Spain.
