March 27: Seville Cathedral

After a couple of failed attempts to enter before our 2:00 pm appointment, we finally entered the sacred Seville Cathedral. We went directly up the tower to check out the viewpoint at the peak. Unlike other towers we have visited, the journey to the top was mainly up a long winding ramp as opposed to stairs.  In fact, we only climbed about 10 steps at the very end to get to the top of the tower.  The views of surrounding buildings were good but could not compare to what we witnessed in Milan, Siena, Rome or Florence.  According to Wikipedia, the Seville Cathedral was “registered in 1987 by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site.” Besides being one of the largest churches in the world, it houses the body of Christopher Columbus and his son Diego.

After exploring the majestic ground floor of the cathedral, we raced off to Perry Viejo for some authentic Spanish cuisine. We had black ink octopus paella, fried chicken thighs and shrimp salad.  I washed it down with a tasty vermouth cocktail and Ashley had a cold beer.

We quickly left the campsite and traveled toward Granada.  We stopped in a rest area after about 3 hours of driving and retired for the evening.
