March 25: Plaza de España
We made it to Seville today and boy was it hot! The temperature peaked at about 82 degrees Fahrenheit, which felt so warm compared to what we had been previously experiencing.
After jumping on a bus, we made the short walk to Plaza de España. It was a really beautiful place with a small canal where people rented row boats to explore the perimeter of the plaza — a super romantic setting. To add to the ambiance, two older men played traditional Peruvian music by one of the two towers that frame this jewel of Seville.
Next, it was off to the Cathedral of Seville. Unfortunately, it was closed when we arrived so we just took a few pictures from the outside but intend to explore the interior tomorrow afternoon.
From here, we hit the first of three restaurants for tapas, drinks, and pizza. Our first stop was Bodega Santa Cruz, which featured traditional Spanish tapas at reasonable prices. We had 5 tapas and a beer for only $14. We were fortunate to walk by an extremely festive bar/restaurant that featured live music, sangria, and pretty good food. We opted for a bottle of Spanish wine and an octopus entree while enjoying some “get out of your seat and dance” music. We saw plenty of traditional flamenco dancing and we even joined in for a song or two. It was a really fun spot with some awesome locals. The final stop was for a small pizza, which was pretty damn tasty.
