February 16: Siena
We had one last soak in the thermal mineral waters before heading off to Siena. Our first stop was a laundromat without a moment to spare as I was down to my last pair of underwear.
After lunch, we explored the magical city of Siena. The Duomo di Siena was the highlight as both the exterior and interior were majestic. According to Wikipedia, this medieval church’s “inlaid marble mosaic floor is one of the most ornate of its kind in Italy, covering the whole floor of the cathedral.”
We also spent time admiring the huge Piazza del Campo, which is the historic center of Siena. It is often referred to as “one of Europe’s greatest medieval squares.”
