February 14: Pienza
Happy Valentine’s Day! It was another long travel day as we boarded our ferry from Palermo to Civitavecchia. This part of the journey took about 15 hours as we left at 2:00 am and arrived at the port at 3:00 pm. Like our last GNV ferry, our “Dick Van Dyke Show” style cabin with two single beds was pretty cold so it was a good thing that Ashley brought her electric blanket. The positive news was an awesome hot shower and proper place to get a close shave.
We were one of the first cars off the ferry and we started our 3-hour trip to Pienza, a lovely town in Tuscany, in an attempt to catch another spectacular sunset. Try as we might, we just were able to catch the tail end as we arrived at 6:00 pm. The ride through the rolling, undulating green hills with plentiful olive and cypress trees was absolutely breathtaking. We can’t wait to explore the city in the morning.
