January 29: Alberobello
We arrived at the Port of Bari at about 10:00 am and headed to our first stop in Italy Part II — Alberobello. As a UNESCO Heritage Site, Alberobello is famous for its trulli, whitewashed stone huts with slate covered conical roofs. This quaint village looks like it fell out of a fairy tale. Even during this gray, rainy day, we were joined by several other tourists who were taking the opportunity to capture the beauty of this lovely village. We had a quick lunch at the central bar cafe as we shared so tasty lasagna and rape pasta.
Next, we made the two-hour drive to Matera to camp for the night before exploring this ancient city in the morning.. According to Google, “Matera is the third oldest city in the world, after Aleppo and Jericho, with over 10,000 years of history.”
