November 28: Sunset on Patong Beach
We brought some of our luggage to the Diamond Cliff Resort where we will spend 7 nights beginning on December 8. We wanted to lighten our load while visiting Phi Phi and Similan Islands during the next week. We quickly toured the Diamond Cliff Resort as we visited the two pools, restaurant and fitness center — what a beautifully peaceful place.
Next, we grabbed a tuk tuk back to Patong with a lovely family from Australia. The two children recently graduated from university— the daughter was training to be a nurse and the son wanted to become a Physical Education teacher. Once we got into town, we visited a few vendors before settling on one for 1,100 ($31) Baht per person for transportation to Phi Phi Island.
After enjoying a late morning nap, we grabbed lunch at Number 6 restaurant. The vegetable fried rice was outstanding. The chicken larb was tasty but a little too spicy for my tastes – this was a case where Thai spicy is quite different from American Thai spicy. From here, we walked to Patong Beach to watch the sunset and the paragliders. A five minute paragliding ride was 1500 Baht ($42) per person— a little too steep for us. The sunset was free and it was spectacular!
