November 27: Tom Yum Kung
We slept in until about 9:00 am and proceeded to enjoy a relaxing morning with some coffee and exercise.
Before we settled in for lunch, we exchanged some money and looked for the best deal on a tour of the Phi Phi Islands. The lowest price that we were quoted was 1400 Baht ($40) per person. As I began to fade under the scorching sun, we found a Thai restaurant for a delicious meal. The highlights were definitely the Tom Yum Kung and green curry soup. Tom Yum Kung, considered by many to be the signature Thai soup, expertly combines the flavors of sweet, sour, salty and spicy to give your taste buds a treat that they won’t soon forget.
After finding some relief from the heat in our hotel room, we decided to find a place for a massage. I decided on the full body Thai and Kimchi settled on a foot massage. This hour of pampering costs us 700 Baht or about $20. While walking back toward our hotel, we joined some fellow tourists and danced along Patong Beach – what a workout!
We put a bow on this day by visiting one of the many bars along Bangla Road. We listened to some live music and drank an expensive beer (170 Baht or $4.75), which probably helps to explain the free cover charge.
