November 17: Day 5 Lycian Way Trek from Delikkemer to Patera Beach and ancient capital of Lycia

I’m reminded of the song, “I must have got lost.” We took a left instead of  right after passing through the aqueduct and traveled all the way to Kalkan, which was approximately 10k from our intended destination.  Legs got ripped up as we passed through some thorny bushes in this narrow path.  We ended up taking a van to Patara beach where we spent a couple of hours eating a whole chicken, drinking a few beers, relaxing in the sun and swimming a bit.

After walking back to our hotel, we got the ride of a lifetime as we hugged the coastline from Patara to Kas.  One of the more visually pleasing drives I can remember— matching the beauty of the ride to Niagara Falls along Lake Superior and the jaunt from Banff to Jasper National Park in Canada.  We immediately fell in love with Kas as soon as we arrived — great energy filled the streets even during this offseason time.  It felt a little more progressive to me than other cities we have visited in Turkey.  Kimchi enjoyed the beautiful views of this quaint mariner city.  We definitely plan to return for a longer stay after our ten day trek along the Lycian Way

Accommodations:  A++ (Hideaway Hotel in Kas)

Another super clean hotel with complimentary water, coffee and soda along with an outstanding sea view from the spacious patio.  Host who greeted us made us feel like we were the most important people staying at the hotel — outstanding customer service.  Roof deck restaurant and bar also offered incredible views of the sunset

Hike: D

I’m reminded of the song, “I must have got lost.” We took a left instead of right after passing through the aqueduct and traveled all the way to Kalkan, which was approximately 10k from our intended destination.  My legs got killed during this trek as we zipped through some tight brush filled paths

Food: A+ (Oburus Momus)

Food at this vegetarian restaurant in Kas was delicious—the bread with dipping sauce, samosas as an appetizer and mushroom pasta were terrific!  Nice vibe along boats docked at a mariner
