October 9: Durmitor National Park

After another restless night’s sleep, we headed out for the final leg of the drive to Durmitor National Park.  After a welcoming shot of whiskey, Ashely and I trekked to Black Lakes and were amazed by the incredible views.  It reminded us of our time in Alberta, Canada with the mountains as a backdrop for glacier fed, turquoise lakes.  The hike was pretty easy but the number of different picturesque spots was abundant.

When we got back to camp, I worked out while  Ashley ate lunch.  She invited one of our hosts (the husband) to camp to share some food.  He obliged and brought some wine to wash down the tasty food that Ashley had prepared.  A couple from Germany – German husband with Filipino wife – joined the party as Ashley cleaned out the fridge, played music and enjoyed some friendly banter.

Ashley was the perfect host as she served food, chatted and laughed with our new friends.  Unfortunately, I still couldn’t eat or drink but it was still fun hanging out and chatting.  The views from this campsite are absolutely spectacular – definitely in the top five of campsite views.
