October 6: Dubrovnik

It was a marathon day that started at 8:00 am and concluded at 7:00 pm.  After our 20 minute bus ride into Dubrovnik, we walked 10 minutes to Old Town.

Our first stop was a stroll along the City Walls.  Spectacular hardly does the trick when describing this incredible trek around Old Town Dubrovnik.  Views inside the city and around the outer walls were equally pleasing to the eye.  The red/orange colored roofs of the homes along with the elegant steeples of the churches provided a perfect backdrop for pics and videos.  The restaurant/bars just outside the walls gave customers amazing views of the sea.

From here, we rented kayaks and explored the City Walls from the tranquil, blue Adriatic Sea.  My shoulders were killing me as I did most of the paddling while Ashley chilled at the front of the boat.  We were not alone on the sea as a bunch of tour groups also participated in this exhilarating activity.

With wet bottoms, we headed to lunch at Lady Pi Pi, which turned out to be one of our decisions that we’ve made in months.  We devoured our grilled steak, and lamb along with a garden and octopus salad.  With just water, the bill still came to about $70 — not cheap but definitely worth it!  With lunch checked off, we put a cherry on our eating with a delicious gelato. Rivaling Percy No in Florence— I again had the lemon and salted caramel.  Ashley even had one — a three scooper to boot.

In an attempt to burn the gelato calories that we inhaled, we trekked up to the top of Imperial Fortress.  The gentle upward ascent provided lots of spectacular balcony views of both the old and new cities of Dubrovnik.  Once at the top, we hiked to the back to see more picturesque views. We decided to bypass the sunset, which was a mistake as it was amazing as we witnessed it on the bus ride back to the campsite following a cable car ride from the panoramic point.
