October 3: 5 Island & Blue Cave Tour

We were up bright and early at 6:00 am. Rested and excited, we headed out for the 5 Island & Blue Cave Tour.

We were on a speedboat with 8 other brave souls including a honeymoon couple from Korea, 4 sisters from North Carolina, a woman from France and another one from Calgary.  After a 1.5 hour ride, we changed boats at Bisevo Island to enter the Blue Cave.  The opening to the cave was tiny as we all had to duck into the boat to get through the hole.  The slight discomfort was worth it as we entered a dark cave with a beautiful navy blue ocean floor that was fueled by the bright sunshine.

Our next stop was Komiza, which is famous for having a restaurant that was used in the film Mama MIA!  We quickly stopped by a bakery, where a super rude woman took our order.  We took a brisk walk around the tiny village, which offered narrow, quiet streets—perfect for pics.

Next, we stopped off at a beach where I took a nice swim in crystal clear blue waters while Ashley took care of her business. Although the water was a bit cool, this spot was terrific for sunning and frolicking in the water.

Saving the best for last, we spent 2 hours on the island of Hvar, which hosts the rich and famous during the summer. It’s famous for the many luxury yachts that fill its small port.  We took the time to walk to the fortress at the top of Hvar. From here, we enjoyed the birds eye view while eating our lunch.  After strolling through more narrow streets and pomegranate trees, we settled by the bay and soaked in the beautiful views and did some people-watching..

The 45 minute speed boat ride back to Split was exhilarating as the waters became more choppy.  Overall, it was an amazing day in Croatia!!
