September 7: Pont ar Daf

After getting an earlier morning workout in, we found out that our boat tour to Skomer Island had been canceled because of the windy conditions.  After initially thinking about driving to Dover early to catch our scheduled ferry back to France, we changed course and decided to stay in Wales until Sunday.

We pivoted and headed to Brecon Beacons National Park.  Upon arriving at the visitor’s center, the weather again took a turn and grounded us from a potential hike.

Without internet service, we drove aimlessly for a bit until we arrived at a free parking spot at the base of Pont ar Daf, which we eventually climbed early in the evening for another sunset.  We passed an older gentleman who appeared to be camping for the night and he described the conditions at the peak as, “a little blowy!”  Understatement of a lifetime— the wind could have easily knocked over a grown elephant but it was so much fun.  We made it back to the bottom just at nightfall and enjoyed a restful sleep.
