September 6: St. David's Cathedral
After emptying gray and filling up fresh water tanks, it was off to St David’s Cathedral with a few pit stops along the way.
St David’s Cathedral was impressive as we noticed many Christians making the pilgrimage. “This Norman Cathedral, begun more than 900 years ago, recognized the power and importance of St David to the Welsh people and housed what were believed to be his bones and those of other saints. The Cathedral has been repaired and altered many times, but the unique sloping nave and outward-leaning columns have survived from its very early years.
On our way to the evening’s campsite, we quickly stopped by Little Haven to watch the surfers take on the mighty waves. It appeared to this novice that the waves were winning the battle today.
We took a late day sunset hike on Skomer Island. The views were incredible and we got to see a couple of seals poking their heads out of the water. Wow — the wind was blowing really strong tonight.
