July 11: Quiraing

It was a wicked busy and stressful day as Ashley had us up at 4:00 am to start our adventure.  The scenery was absolutely breathtaking— reminded me of Chocolate Hills in the Philippines and some areas of Sri Lanka. We stopped at about five different spots to take in the magnificent views of the lush green landscape.  Unfortunately, the narrow roads, along with oncoming cars, roadside rocks/cliffs, cyclists and pedestrians, made for an extremely stressful driving experience.

The first stop was for a quick 1 mile hike, which provided nice, not spectacular, views.  From here, we parked for a couple of hours — I ate a big breakfast while Ashley went back to sleep.  The thick sliced bacon and granola were standouts from the morning sustenance.

Our next stop was a view of Eilean Donan Castle.  We decided not to pay the entry fee and just took a few pics.  Ashley had lots of plans and we needed to complete all of them today.

We quickly drove off to Glen Sligachan where we again embarked on a quick walk.  Once Ashley sensed the view would not change we turned headed back to the van. This spot will be remembered more for the near miss as I just missed a cyclist on the way to Glen Sligachan.

Our second to last stop was Fairy Glen.  The hilly landscape reminded us of the Chocolate Hills of the Philippines.  I climbed one of the tallest mounds and Ashley caught a couple of pictures of me from the top.

We definitely saved the best for last as we trekked Quiraing, which like Fairy Glen is a landslip. The wind was howling but that didn’t stop us from embarking on this amazing hike that brought back memories of Seceda with its lush green grass on angled mountain tops.  We took lots of incredible pictures and saw one couple taking some fabulous wedding photos.
