June 21: Rome
It was another busy sightseeing tour day in Rome. We had an early (4:30 am) morning in which we moved our luggage from the Korean Guest House to YellowSquare Rome. This 20 minute walk almost killed me as I lugged my orange duffel bag literally on my right shoulder.
After a delicious traditional Korean breakfast (chicken was delicious), we did the Rome tour thing with stops at the Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps, Pantheon, Piazza Navona and finally the Colosseum.
We had a cheap lunch at Pastificio Guerra. The pasta was homemade with two options (carbonara or broccoli) for 4.50 euros. The food was pretty good and definitely worth the price.
When I noticed that my phone had only 20% charge, we went to an expensive coffee shop where I ordered a tasty iced coffee and the smallest tart I’ve ever seen. All of this deliciousness cost us 14 euros. Ashley walked back to the hostel and I made my way to the Colosseum.
The exterior of the Colosseum was super impressive. I was able to get some excellent photos as I waited for my 4:40 pm entry time. Upon entry, I walked around the second and first floors respectively. Throughout the tour, I was struck by the number of people in the ancient stadium. I tried to get the perfect picture but struggled finding the right spot. I eventually found a young woman and mother who were nice enough to take my picture. The daughter blasted a ton of pics.
Upon exiting the Colosseum, I quickly walked through the Roman Forum which reminded me of ruins we saw in Pamukkale, Turkey.
With the charger sporadically working, I made it to the Colosseo train stop and headed back to Yellow Square. The shower never felts so good.
