February 4: Yala National Park
It was a really early morning again with a wake up before 4:00 am. We headed out to Yala National Park at 4:45 am but had to wait for the gates to open at 6:15. The safari started out pretty slowly as we hardly saw any animals. One of the early highlights was a spot with some beautiful birds where we took several pictures. Eventually, we did see an elephant — in fact, there were a couple of spots where we saw them. As we arrived at lunch, we were still on the lookout for a leopard. Overall, it was a pretty disappointing day to see wildlife -- the warm weather or extensive crowds of humans undoubtedly played a role.
