February 2: Train Ride to Ella
It was another early wake up — this time the alarm went off at 4:00 am. We drove about an hour to Horton Plains National Park. As such, we were the first in line for this 10K hike. There were a couple of picturesque viewpoints but no wildlife.
Next, we drove back to Nuwara Eliya where we picked up our laundry, updated our SIM cards (also replaced my cracked protective glass) and had a delicious snack (Mesadosa). Next, we ventured off to the very scenic Edinburg Tea Farm. After snapping several pics and drinking a Masala tea, we boarded a train to Ella. The train ride offered more spectacular views of mountains, valleys and tea farms.
Upon arrival at Ella, you got the sense that this was a hip very town — perfect for young folks. After finding a cheap hotel, we made our way downtown to people watch. The place was littered with restaurants and bars.
