February 16: Happy Poya Day
Excellent choice coming to Negombo— we had an awesome day. It started with a visit to the Fish Market — we walked a pretty good distance but stopped occasionally to take pics and buy street food.
The Fish Market was amazing — we saw the morning fish being hauled in, gutted, cleaned, and dried. After the fish was caught, it was sold in the market right next to the beach — talk about fresh. We learned that it takes two days for the fish to dry before sending it to markets around Sri Lanka. Wasn’t all fun and games — I helped a few fishermen bring their boat to shore.
Got back to the hotel for a super tasty breakfast before working out and relaxing for the rest of the morning. At 12:30 pm, we got picked up for a 3 hour spa day for only $31.50 each. My message was really good - a little too close to my private part a few times – but other than that it was awesome. We also had tea poured on our forehead, individual sauna and bath.
After a quick average dinner, we headed down to the beach to celebrate Poya Day. I joined in with the Sri Lankans for a few dances and then met some cool guys with a nice Jeep. One of these guys really loved Kimch — said she looked 37!
