Feb 3: Lipton Tea Plantation
Got up early to see the sunrise at the summit of Little Adam’s Peak. The trek was pretty easy as we scaled it in about 30 minutes. Once at the top, we took a bunch of pics and videos. From here, we raced to try to see the 6:30 am train cross over the 9 Arch Bridge. We literally missed it by two minutes. In fact, we were running on the tracks toward the bridge when the train sounded the horn for us to get off the track. We snagged a video from a couple that was able to capture the memorable event.
Next, we grabbed breakfast and headed out to Haputale to visit the Lipton Tea Plantation. This adventure was one of the highlights for Kimchi. We took a tuk tuk to the top where we had lunch and tea. It was the absolutely best tea I’ve ever had in my life.
We decided to walk down the road, which provided Kimchi with a bunch of opportunities to take pics and videos of the beautiful plantation. It also gave us a chance to interact with some of the tea harvesters.
Finally, we drove over three hours to Yala to our hotel, which was a dump. As soon as we arrived, the power went out. We took this opportunity to run to the grocery store to pick up a couple of beers in air conditioned comfort.
