January 20: Snorkeling at the Blue Hole
Busy day as we awoke from our week long rest and recovery period. We left our hotel and headed off for a day of snorkeling and relaxing at the Blue Hole, Ras Abu Galum and the Blue Lagoon.
After picking up our equipment— which did not include a life jacket and flippers — we spent an hour at the Blue Lagoon. Coral and fish were absolutely beautiful. Unfortunately, our masks weren’t great quality— both Kimchi and I took in water by nose and mouth.
Next, we were off on a crazy and bumpy boat ride to Ras Abu Galum, which was our planned second spot for snorkeling. Our guide canceled this round because of the heavy surf. So we went directly by jeep — yep, we were in the bed of a truck — to the Blue Lagoon. It was a beautiful spot but only for relaxing, not snorkeling.
After an hour, we went back to Ras Abu Galum. This time I snorkeled with a guy we met from Italy. However, I didn’t last long as I took on tons of water.
After a long wait, we boarded the boat along with 30 of our closest friends for the trip back to the Blue Hole for lunch/dinner at 5:00 pm
