December 24: Nizwa Fort & Wadi Nakhr

Got a late start today as Ghassan didn’t arrive until 7:45 am.  Because of this fact, we didn’t arrive at the Nizwa Market until about 9:15 am and therefore, we missed the animal auction. We spent time in the market and purchased carrots, cucumbers, lettuce and melons.  We continued by going into the Nizwa Fort.  This was an excellent decision as we all found the fort to be super interesting and quite beautiful.

Next, we drove to Wadi Nakhr for our second trip to this spectacular valley.  The off-roading was outstanding and painful.  H and I made the walk to the small pool, took some pics and headed back to the car.

After having lunch at the same Yemen restaurant (3x and counting), we proceeded to the “donkey village.” Misfat Al Abryeen didn’t disappoint as we were all amazed at how this village was constructed into the rock face.  We visited the same coffee shop and had a drink and a waffle dessert.  From here, we made the 30 minute drive to Jabal Shams.

Accommodations: A (Stars Jabal Shams)

Nice big and clean room for us to share. Kimchi cooked some sweet potatoes and it was off to bed.  It was an xMas eve like I’ve never experienced before.

Food: B

We went to the same Yemen restaurant and ordered fish, beef and pasta.  The fish and pasta were pretty tasty but the beef was tasteless.
