December 22: Turtle Reserve
We left Bar Al Hikman at around 10. I knew we had a bit of a problem when I handed Salim 50 OMR and he looked confused. His partner explained that we owed 70 OMR more for transportation and a half hour jet ski rental. We were both pissed.
On the ride back to Mahut, I contacted Ghassan to see if he could help us resolve this misunderstanding. Kimchi was intent to speak with the German couple who were following us to see if they also were charged a transport fee. When we determined the partner had lied, we threatened to go to the police. That threat basically put the argument to rest and we were on our way to Salalah.
After driving about two hours toward Salalah, we changed course and decided to enjoy adventure tour II with H. That prompted us to turn around and backtrack to Muscat. We did stop at the turtle reserve where we were lucky enough to see a few mother turtles laying eggs, and burying them. Also, we saw a mother returning to the sea along with two newborn turtles.
Accommodations: A (Turtle Reserve Guest House)
Big beautiful room with a huge comfy bed. Complimentary water and coffee in this super clean hotel. Bathroom was wicked clean with a decent shower. Awesome space to workout in the morning!!
Food: B
We ate in a restaurant in Mahut — the kingfish was excellent! The rest of the food was just ok — chicken curry and squid masala.
