December 14: Wadi Bani Khalid

After an excellent night’s sleep in our awesome hotel room, Kimchi and I were up early to capture some amazing sunrise pics.  We scaled a huge dune at the back of our lovely accommodations.  We spent about an hour and a half capturing the first light.  Upon our return at 7:00 am, we were first in line for a tasty breakfast.

After a quick workout and shower, we were back on the road headed for Wadi Bani Khalid.  But, before departing, we did some sand sledding down the same dune that we scaled this morning. Ghassan also pulled me on the sled behind the car – not a great decision as I ate my share of sand.

Next, we spent a couple of hours at Wadi Bani Khalid. I swam in the beautiful warm waters while Kimchi made friends with a mom and son from France.  We all made our way to Muqal Cave — it was super tight, I hit my head a handful of times..

Finally, we drove to Sur and had an excellent late lunch/early dinner.  After woofing down our food, we climbed to a tower that provided awesome vantage points for an outstanding sunset.

Accommodations: D- (Ghassan friend’s apartment)

Looked more like a hostel. Kimchi and I slept in one room with 4 single beds. My mattress felt like a rock.  The bathroom was disgusting.

Food: A- (Wadi Al Hawash)

We split a delicious grilled fish plate with two types of fish, mussels, calamari and shrimp.  If this were a track meet, I would call this one a hundred yard sprint.
