December 12: Snake Canyon
Unquestionably, today was the best of our 8 day adventure. We started at Snake Canyon for a three hour adventure that included rappelling, trekking, sliding and diving in pools of cool water. Some of the slides were pretty exciting and painful. One, in particular, both Kimchi and I felt the pain in our left elbow and shoulder. I was so proud of myself for diving off the highest point while Kimchi and Ghassan opted for the lower jump point.
Besides the adventure, the canyon was absolutely beautiful— it gave us both the feel of the Narrows at Zion National Park and Antelope Canyon in Page, Arizona. Snake Canyon was undoubtedly the highlight of our trip so far.
Next, we made a short visit to Balid Sayt Village. We met three men— one from Oman and the two others from Bangladesh. We shared coffee, dates, apples and oranges with them. I Facebook friended one of the men from Bangladesh.
Our final stop was at Wakan Village and it didn’t disappoint. It felt like a stairway to Heaven as you took a peaceful stroll through gardens, and palm trees to the sound of slowly running water. It was a venue that Omanian’s place a premium on — peace and tranquility.
Accommodations: B
Campsite along a warm spring wadi was nice. Unfortunately, we camped by a bright streetlight. The wadi attracted lots of families who enjoyed a cookout by the running stream.
Food: B+
Both breakfast and lunch were very satisfying— breakfast included eggs, cheese and vegetable bindi. Lunch was even better as we dined on rice, salad and the most delicious chicken. Kimchi, after consuming a healthy portion of this fowl, begged for more. Unfortunately, the cook — who works as a chef for the Omanian military — had to decline
