December 11: Jabal Shams
Busy and long day — Kimchi and I began the day early as we caught a spectacular sunrise at Jabal Shams. After a quick cup of coffee and workout, we did the extremely scenic Balcony Walk. This trek hugs the “Omanian Grand Canyon” and offers many spectacular views.
From here, we made our way to al Hoota Cave. We spent approximately an hour exploring the cave and its many rock formations.
After lunch, we ventured to the beautiful village of Misfat Al A’briyeen. We took a rather bumpy and uncomfortable donkey ride into the village. There were some amazing modern coffee shops and hotels mixed in with structures from several hundred years ago. Kimchi absolutely loved this spot.
Finally, we made the over two hour drive to our campsite near Snake Canyon. Ashley wasn’t happy with this decision as it caused us to miss the views along this four wheel drive scenic road.
Accommodations: D
First night camping — yikes no mat and no pillow. I was super uncomfortable plus the bathrooms were absolutely gross.
Food: B (Reem Al Yemen Restaurant)
Went back to the same restaurant but this time had camel and pasta. The camel tasted like beef and the pasta although overcooked was pretty tasty
