Anchorage

We arrived in Anchorage at about 9:00 am where we met Haein, gathered our luggage and grabbed a shuttle to pick up our RV. After completing some paperwork, we were on the road with a first pit stop at a grocery store.  This $350 stop was followed by three more — two Asian stores and a farmer’s market.  At the farmer’s market, we picked up a bunch of King crab legs and some smoked salmon spread.  We sampled both of these tasty treats during our lunch break on our way to Seward.

After a scenic two hour drive along the coastline, we arrived in Seward and set up camp along a fast moving glacier-fed river.  This resting place provided spectacular views for the conclusion of day 1 and beginning of day 2.

Seward turned out to be the perfect first destination. Nestled between towering mountains and Resurrection Bay, this charming harbor town is best known as the gateway to Kenai Fjords National Park. One fun fact we learned: Seward is the southern terminus of the historic Iditarod Trail, which was once a critical supply route during Alaska’s gold rush days.
